2011United Nations University International Courses

United Nations University will offer the International Courses in 2011 Autumn Session. The courses are targeted towards postgraduate students who wish to pursue careers in international fields, or whose field of studies is the activities of international organizations and international issues. Under the agreement with UNU and Sophia University, four students from Sophia University are admitted to participate in the courses. The courses are taught by a team of scholars and practitioners comprising both in-house and outside experts. Sophia University will be responsible for the tuition. All courses will be conducted in English. Credits attained in these courses may be counted toward thecredits required for graduation in Sophia University.

Course Titles:
Course 1: “United Nations System: Pressing Issues and Sustainable Solutions” (2 credits)
Course 2: “International Peace and Security” (2 credits)
Course 3: “Global Change and Sustainability” (2 credits)
Course 4: “International Cooperation and Development” (2 credits)
Selection of Courses:Two courses (maximum) per student
Venue:United Nations University Centre (UN House) 5F 53-70, Jingumae 5-chome, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, 150-8925
Tuition: Paid by Sophia (Fee for textbooks and other required materials for the course is not included in tuition)

Offered Course Duration:12 September 2011 ~ 21 October 2011 (six weeks)
Course Schedule:Each course will be a 90 min lecture ×3 times a week × 6 weeks

Number of Admittance:Four students
Eligibility for Submission:Students currently enrolled in master’s or Ph.D. program, in any discipline, in Sophia University *Students on Leave of Absence in 2011 autumn semester are not eligible. *Students may not withdraw after being accepted by the UNU.
Application Procedure:
1. Complete the “2011 UNU International Courses Application Form” (downloadable on UNU website )
2. A certified copy of original transcript (academic records of both undergraduate and graduate education)
3. Excellent written and verbal English language skills are required. Applicants whose first language is not English and whose bachelor’s degree is not from an institution at which English is the language of instruction must submit proof of English language proficiency within the past 2 years. The minimum score requirements for TOEFL or IELTS are: TOEFL scores (minimum: paper-based 600/ Internet-based 100), or IELTS (7.0) or equivalent proof of English-language proficiency for non-native speakers.

Monday, Jun 13, 2011 by 5:00pm (Applications will not be accepted after 5pm)
Selection :
Sophia University will inform the applicants of the result of selection by UNU.
